OPC Foundation and Industrial Data Space Initiative Sign Memorandum of Understanding at Hannover Fair
OPC and Industrial Data Space Foundation Agree to Collaborate on development of interface specifications
Scottsdale, AZ – April 26, 2016 – The OPC Foundation and the Industrial Data Space Foundation (e.V.) have agreed to collaborate in the development of specifications, white papers, guidelines and processes that provide the infrastructure necessary for the two organizations to promote system wide interoperability. Deliverables from the collaboration between the two organizations will benefit the members of both of the respective organizations in the pursuit of developing and achieving information integration across the multitude of domains.
At the Hannover Fair, Thomas J. Burke, President and Executive Director of the OPC Foundation and Reinhold Achatz, Chairman of the Board Industrial Data Space e.V. and CTO thyssenkrupp AG signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which both organizations agree to closely cooperate in the development and marketing of shared deliverables to foster interoperability.
The OPC Foundation is a nonprofit international standards organization dedicated to providing the best specifications, technology, certification and process to achieve multivendor, multiplatform, secure reliable interoperability for moving data and information from the embedded world to the enterprise, inclusive of big data and cloud functionality. OPC Foundation is actively working at providing the infrastructure with active collaboration with many organizations to provide the solution for the Internet of Everything.
OPC UA which is known as the OPC Unified Architecture is a service-oriented architecture providing timeless durability, interfacing with legacy systems, current solutions, and systems of the future. OPC UA has a rich information model that allows organizations to model their complex data and information for transparent distributions between disparate devices and applications.
The Industrial Data Space Foundation (e.V.)was founded in January 2016 for the purpose of defining a standard for a secure data exchange between companies, where the creator of data remains owner and retains sovereignty over usage of data. The focus of this initiative is to provide a network of trusted data based on the principles of security, scalability, openness, trustworthiness and decentralization. It will enable companies to build new applications and services generating a competitive advantage in all industries. It plans to use existing standards, where meaningful.
Mr. Burke said, “The OPC Foundation collaboration with the Industrial Data Space Initiative provides a unique opportunity for OPC Foundation members and the OPC community to leverage the standardized information platform to enable autonomous secure authentication and communication with IT-based systems of today and tomorrow”.
Dr. Reinhold Achatz stated, “The definitions and interfaces of Industrial Data Space and OPC complement each other and will form the basis for a future secure and efficient exchange of data in all industries. The cooperation of both organizations will help to simplify the implementation of new data oriented applications and services.”
About OPC Foundation Since 1996, the OPC Foundation has facilitated the development and adoption of the OPC information exchange standards. As both advocate and custodian of these specifications, the Foundation’s mission is to help industry vendors, end-users, and software developers maintain interoperability in their manufacturing and automation assets. The OPC Foundation is dedicated to providing the best specifications, technology, process and certification to achieve multivendor, multiplatform, secure, reliable interoperability for moving data and information from the embedded world to the enterprise cloud. The organization serves over 470 members worldwide in the Industrial Automation, IT, IoT, IIoT, M2M, Industrie 4.0, Building Automation, machine tools, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, and Smart Energy sectors. About The Industrial Data Space Foundation
The Industrial Data Space Foundation (e.V.) was founded in January 2016. The Industrial Data Space defines an international standard for a secure data exchange between enterprises based on the principle that the generator of data remains the owner of the data and keeps sovereignty over their use. The Industrial Data Space Foundation defines framework and governance for the definition of reference architecture and interfaces.
Use-cases will be the basis for an agile development of the standard. The Industrial Data Space Foundation will as well support the development of numerous certifiable software solutions and business models based on that standard.
